From a veterinary standpoint, FOCO Adjustable Blinkers are best characterised as a welfare-positive alternative to traditional fixed-cup blinkers. Fixed cups impose continuous peripheral restriction from barrier to finish, irrespective of the horse's actual sensory needs during a given phase of the race.
FOCO's two-state design is intended to support controlled visual management: full vision by default, with focused restriction engaged only when the jockey judges it appropriate. This may reduce the cumulative sensory load carried by the horse across the full race and can support greater behavioural stability through the parade, load, and settling phases.
The system is designed for veterinary evaluation. Nothing is transmitted from the horse, no biometric data is captured, and every failure mode defaults to standard gear — meaning the horse is never worse off than under conventional equipment.
